Shane fidgeted with the strings of Ilya’s hoodie. He was good with kids, good with fans, heck sometimes with other players, but was he really? I mean only J.J. and Hayden would even look at him in the locker rooms, and the rookies shifted to asking fucking Comeau and Hayden for help instead of him. Their Captain. The one who got them three fucking standly cups. 

“Shane, Моя любовь,” Ilya’s hand slid down from his shoulder, resting on his lower back lightly, “Breathe, they will love you.” Shane’s gaze swung over to him, his mischievous, perfect crystal blue eyes… God he loved him- He loved him more than he thought possible… 

“Ilya- We shoul– I shouldn’t have come with you… Your team– your care–” Ilya’s gaze hardened, he held up one large calloused hand. Shane’s mouth clamped shut. 

“No. Centaurs are not Metros, Дa?” His thumb brushed over his freckles. 

“Yeah…” Shane hesitated, the nagging feeling in his stomach just flipping over, “But–”

“Нет. No. None of that.” Ilya pressed a kiss to his temple, his hand sliding around to the curve of his waist, pulling him flush against him. 

The door swung open, revealing Cassie. Grinning ear to fucking ear. 

“Shane!!” She stepped forward, crushing him with a bear hug, causing Ilya, much to his disappointment, to have to let go of Shane’s waist. 

“Oof– H-Hey Cassie” He awkwardly patted her back. 

“Yes yes, I am here too.” Ilya huffed, fake pouting. 

“Yeah, but we’ve seen your big baby ass before.” Cassie chuckled. “Come on, everyone but Lizzy and Tanner are here, but they’re always late.” 

The backyard was, like, medium sized? Not massive like Shane’s cottage had, but not small either. Five kids were running around in the grass, two girls, three boys. They all had juice boxes, though some looked as though they were long empty. One of the girls and one of the boys, who Shane assumed were Pearl’s kids because they had her platinum blonde hair, and Jack’s olive skin, were attempting to give each other piggy-backs. 

“No! Emma and Oliver Boyle!” Pearl ran over as they tried climbing a tree with Emma on the boys back. “Get down!” Shane chuckled at the sight of Pearl, half a burger in her left hand, and her right trying to pry the little girl off her older brother. 

“The others are inside” Cassie called over, when had she gone to the deck? “We’ll be inside when you two are ready, to like– y’know!”

A lump formed in his throat. Oh fuck. We’re really doing this… 

“Shane?” Ilya’s hand found his, squeezing it tight. “You want me to take lead or follow?” 

He just shook his head. 

“That is not answer–” Shane smacked his arm. “Ой! My Fiancé is so mean!” 

“Come on. Lets go before I change my mind, or want to throw up.” Ilya squeezed his hand. 

“Oke!” 

“Fuck- Is that Shane Hollander?” That was Nick… 

“Well I’ll be damned!” Wyatt laughed, “When Lisa said you were bring a special guest- I was assuming it’d be Jane, but Shane fucking Hollander works too.” 

“Well- Welcome to enemy territory Hollander” Evan laughed, taking a sip of his beer. 

“Erm- Just Shane is fine…” He said awkwardly, take Ilya’s hand nervously. 

“Oh- OH FUCK” Troy nearly dropped his hot dog. “YOU BAGGED SHANE HOLLANDER?” He looked up at Ilya, and Shane felt blood rush to his face. The room went silent, Shane's stomach did a few flips. 

He waited for the slurs, the insults, the disgust... but it never came. 

“MY MAN!” Wyatt clapped Ilya on the back, “Rozzy you are one hell of a man.” 

“Дa, you not know this before?” Ilya grinned, snaking his hand around Shane’s waist again. 

“Ilya!” Shane hissed. 

“So this is Jane?” Chase chuckled, “Well ‘Jane’ want a beer?” 

Shane opened his mouth to respond, but Ilya beat him to it, “Ginger Ail. He is boring, does not drink alcohol.” He rolled his eyes, “I will take–”

“Vodka on the rocks, we know Rozzy” Harris called out from the Kitchen, where he was helping Lisa with drinks. 

“I can talk for myself Ilya.” Shane sighed, “And I’m not boring.” 

“Yes, you are not just boring, you are my boring Дa?” He grinned, a thought coming to his head, “And you have very good mou–” 

“ILYA!” Shane covered his mouth with his hand. Ilya licked it, making Shane grimace, and rip his hand off, wiping it on Ilya’s shoulder. 

“Alright TMI Rozzy.” Zane laughed, turning to Shane, “How do you deal with his ass 24/7?” 

“Sometimes I don’t know” Shane chuckled fondly, some of the tension eaising from his shoulders. 

“Что?! Малыш?!” Ilya looked at him, “Look how mean my Fiancé is to me!! Booodddyy! Tell him to be nicer!” Ilya whined. Zane rolled his eyes, chuckling. 

“You big baby” Shane mumbled, pressing a kiss to his cheek, a smile poking at his lips. 

“Woah woah woah. Did you say fucking Fiancé?” Ilya grinned, pulling out his necklace with his mother’s cross, and his ring on the chain.

“Sorry yeah- Does this mean Shane proposed?” Shane grinned, heat rising to Ilya’s face. 

“Хорошо– He had to lock this down!” Ilya huffed, but a bashful smile forced it’s way to his face. 

“ROZZY’S BEEN TAMED!” Holmberg and Troy high fived. 

“Bag skates for all of you” Ilya pouted, as a groan rippled through the living room. 

“Holy fuck…” Haas, the rookie, was standing at the entrance of the living room, mouth agape. 

“EYYY! HAAS IT’S YOUR IDOL!” Young slapped him on the back, LaPointe grinned as Haas turned bright red. 

“Idol? What?” Shane turned to look at Ilya, his face turning pink. 

“Yes yes, rookie has posters of you”

“WHAT? ME?” Shane squeaked. 

“N-NO I-” Haas covered his face, looking as though he was about to die of embarrassment. 

“Wait- They sell posters of me?” 

“Дa? You are second best Hockey player.” Shane smacked him on the back of the head.

The crowd slowly dispersed back out into the yard, Zane flipping burgers while bickering with Ilya. 

“Sorry we’re late!!!” That must be Lizzy. 

“You missed the reveal girly.” Selena laughed, hugging her. 

“I WHAT?” 

“What reveal- HOLY JESUS FUCKING CHRIST IS THAT SHANE HOLLANDER?” Tanner dropped his sweater. 

“WE’RE NOT DOING THIS AGAIN” Wyatt groaned, as Shane giggled. Maybe the Centaurs weren’t as bad as his team… He already dreamed of playing with Ilya on a team that felt like family… Maybe this was that team…
