“Ilya,” Shane stressed, breathing out a sigh as he scrolls through the Centaurs group chat. They’re both in bed, sitting up on the headboard and pressed against each other. Their legs, under the duvet, are tangled together comfortably. Shane pushes his glasses up on his bridge, fighting the urge to throw something at Ilya.

“What?” Ilya’s smirk was almost audible, and Shane tilted his head towards his husband, a subtle glare in his eyes. “Is true, he had poster of me in his room. He told me.”

“That doesn’t mean you have to embarrass the kid.”

“He loves us, is okay.”

Shane rolled his eyes, nudging Ilya’s shoulder lightly in retaliation. Before he could say anything though, both of their phones started buzzing in rapid succession. He had no doubts that it was the group chat, now that Ilya had stopped simply reading the texts with a growing smile and actually responded.

Ilya confirmed it. “They’re asking when we became a thing. Very curious about it.”

Shane loved the Centaurs. He really did. After how his time with Montreal ended, after unwillingly losing pretty much all of his friendships besides Hayden and JJ, he was naturally afraid of the dynamics of a new team. But the Centaurs were nothing like his former team, and Shane had never been part of a locker room that felt like this. Easy and supportive. Actually friends, outside of hockey.

And the Centaurs had accepted him just as easily as they had Ilya, even though it took a bit for Shane to truly open up with them. Now, though, they felt like a second family. And Shane would never take that for granted.

They had one flaw, however. Boundaries, for some reason, seemed to be a foreign concept to the entire team.

Shane, who had been exasperatedly reading the texts with Ilya, let out a sigh. “Why is our relationship important enough to bet on? Don’t they have better things to do on the weekend?”

Ilya gave him a look, one that Shane could read easily now. “Like team bonding, for them.” The Russian lifted one of his hands and stroked it gently over Shane’s cheek, moving it back to tuck a stray strand of hair behind his hair. “Is fun, no?”

And well, Shane could admit that reading through their teammates theories of when they got together has been kind of funny. Especially the ones from before they had publicly come out as friends. Luca, though…he had gotten very close to the truth.

“Haasy was the closest.” Ilya's thoughts seemed to echo his own. “Must be because he was always staring at me.”

Shane half-heartedly smacked Ilya’s stomach. “I’m surprised Harris didn’t say it yet.”

Ilya shrugged. “He is good friend. We said FTC was secret for now, he said okay. They’ll know soon.”

Soon was next week, which Shane was trying not to think about too much. The docuseries was important to them, and although he knew the Centaurs would love and support the idea, the years of secrecy and sneaking around still lingered in his brain sometimes.

Their phones buzzed again before Shane could dive into a mini-spiral, and Ilya snorted quietly and started to type. Shane braced himself, and glanced down at the chat.
