Let The Record Show

by EiraMorhen

Summary

The truth is out.

As friends and family close ranks around Shane and Ilya, the rest of the world starts catching up. The interview spreads, the leaked messages refuse to die quietly, and Montreal finds itself losing control of the story one reaction at a time.

Notes

So we've seen how their family reacted, we've seen how their friends reacted

Let's see how the public reacts, shall we?

Chapter 1

@OttawaCentaursOfficial

Hollander breaks silence

The Centaurs’ very own Social Media Manager, Harris Drover, sits down with Montreal Voyageur captain Shane Hollander to reveal the truth and put an end to speculation. Watch now at OttawaCentaurs.nhl/blog/Holla….

@BostonBearsOfficial

For eight years, Ilya Rozanov wore our jersey and led our room. We know his character. We know his heart. We stand with Ilya, Shane Hollander, and every player who deserves better from this sport than institutional failure, locker room cruelty, and the silence that protects both. There is no place in our game for racism, homophobia, or abuse disguised as culture.

@OttawaCentaursOfficial

Hollander breaks silence

@SeattleStormOfficial

There is no room in this sport for hate, silence, or complicity. We stand with Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov.

@OttawaCentaursOfficial

Hollander breaks silence

@TheScottHunter

No one should have to survive this to play the game they love. Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov deserved safety, dignity, and honesty long before this interview. They have my respect, my support, and my anger.

@coffeeandchaos

sorry THE LEAGUE wanted them to say it was a prank?????????????? 😵‍💫

@pixelatedrain

The part wrecking me is that the league wanted them to pretend it meant nothing. Eleven years, and they were meant to act like it was nothing.

@Mildpanic

“we were expected to tell the world that it was a prank” no yeah thats going to haunt me for a bit

@NYAdmiralsOfficial

Every player deserves safety, dignity, and respect. We are thinking of Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov today, and of every player who has ever been made to feel they had to hide who they are.

@OttawaCentaursOfficial

Hollander breaks silence

@watchingwarmups

“The only person who was on my side was Hayden” oh thats brutal

@northendnotes

That one line about Hayden changes how I’m reading all of this tbh

@midnightpuck

the fact that the only person on his side was Hayden is so bleak i cant even laugh about it

@HaydenPikeNHL

If you’re uncomfortable with the current situation, good. Imagine living through it, rather than reading it through your screen. What is happening to them now matters more than anyone’s discomfort. Shane and Ilya deserve better.

@TorontoGuardiansOfficial

We know the damage done when organisations choose silence, comfort, or self protection over accountability. It should never take public pain for a team to do the right thing. Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov deserved better. So does every player forced to carry the cost of that failure.

@OttawaCentaursOfficial

Hollander breaks silence

@puckandprose

“You tell yourself you’re being careful… and then one day people decide that careful means dishonest.” That is a devastating line.

@greywindow

“careful means dishonest” is such a brutal summary of what public life does to private people

@offsideopinion

The interview does two things at once. It confirms the relationship was not new, and it confirms the fear was not paranoia. Shane Hollander described exactly why they kept it private, then the leaked texts proved him right.

@Zane_Boodram

In all of the chaos surrounding the timeline reveal, do not lose the actual story here. The messages were racist. They were homophobic. They were cruel. Shane and Ilya did not create this situation by existing. Other people created it with hate.

@ChicagoFalconsOfficial

No player should have to endure racism, homophobia, or harassment from within their own room. We support Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov, and every person pushing this game to be better.

@OttawaCentaursOfficial

Hollander breaks silence

@VancouverBreakersOfficial

Respect is not optional. Inclusion is not optional. We stand with Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov, today and always.

@OttawaCentaursOfficial

Hollander breaks silence

@justhereforthehockey

wait they got benched immediately because it was “a lot” for people??????

@glassandice

Not enough people are talking about the benching. Not performance based. Not discipline based. Just discomfort.

@fiveminormood

the benching part is getting buried under the timeline reveal but thats WILD actually

@Barrett_Troy

I’ve had my fair share of homophobia directed my way. I shouldn’t be used to it, but I am. But watching people try to diminish everything Shane has achieved because of who he loves, or the colour of his skin, is sickening. Knowing it came from his own room is worse.

@softcheeseenergy

not him saying the thing people questioned is the same thing that made him the player he is. that one got me 😭

@overtimeeyes

the “what you see on the ice is real” part is making me recontextualise about ten thousand clips

@marblesoup

sorry everyone thought this was a new relationship and meanwhile theyve been together since before the draft?????? 😭

@tuesdaymood

so all this time they thought they knew him and actually they only ever knew the version of him that was scared and hiding

@RoseLandryOfficial

I don’t care how many statements get posted today. The things that were said about Shane and Ilya were vicious, degrading, and inhuman. Shane and Ilya, I love you. The rest of you should be ashamed.

@Svetlana

A lot of you are getting distracted by the wrong part. The story is not that two men loved each other in private. The story is that other people answered that with racism, homophobia, and cruelty.

@DallasWranglersOfficial

Our game is at its strongest when every player is safe, respected, and able to be fully themselves. We stand against racism, homophobia, and the culture that allows either to thrive. We stand with Shane and Ilya

@OttawaCentaursOfficial

Hollander breaks silence

@ColoradoSummitOfficial

Courage should never be required just to tell the truth. We stand with Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov, and with every player who has been failed by the culture around them.

@OttawaCentaursOfficial

Hollander breaks silence

@rinkratjules

“I’m not surprised by them” might actually be the worst line in the whole interview

@user1410

no bc IM NOT SURPRISED BY THEM??? that made my stomach drop

@sleepdeprivedowl

the fact that the texts didnt surprise him is maybe the bleakest thing he said all night

@marblesoup

not to be disrespectful during a very serious interview but shane hollander saying “fuck you” straight to camera was a LOT for me personally 🫠

@peachykeen_

deeply inappropriate time to realise shane hollander being angry does in fact work for me. noted. 😳

@greaselinetalk

some of you are handling the hollander interview in a way that is NOT helping 💀

@thatsnotmycat

“You don’t owe anyone access to you” is going to stick with me for a long time actually

@cassetteghost

that “you don’t owe anyone access to you” line should be on the walls of every juniors locker room honestly

@softcheeseenergy

HE ENDED THE INTERVIEW WITH “I LOVE YOU” IN RUSSIAN???? oh im done 😭

@DrLisaHayes

People keep circling back to the relationship as though that is the shocking part. It is not. The shocking part is the racism, the homophobia, and the fact that this level of hatred could live inside a professional room for so long.

@OnTheIceReport

What is landing with readers is not just that Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov were together for eleven years. It is that those years were shaped by a culture where racist and homophobic bile could be spoken openly enough to become routine.

@Daily_Puck

Everyone is sharing the interview. They should be. But do not let Montreal hide behind the romance of it all. The texts were racist. The texts were homophobic. That is the fire here. Half the league has managed to say something before Montreal has, and that tells its own story.

@offsideopinion

Every time I remember those texts were coming from his own room I get angry all over again.

@glassandice

What gets me is how casual some of it sounds. Not one explosive moment. Just a pattern of ugliness.

@watchingwarmups

And the private chat detail matters. They knew enough not to say it where decent people could hear them.

@puckandprose

What is so damning here is not only the language, but the normalisation of it. No pushback. No discomfort. No one stepping in.

@rinkratjules

also the racial stuff is getting buried under the relationship discourse and that is making me nuts. the texts were racist. say it properly.

@softcheeseenergy

it is the “look at him” line for me. like just full mask off ugliness. disgusting.

@marblesoup

the fact they were questioning his leadership and calling him a liability over THIS?? after everything hes done for that team?? foul. 😒

@northendnotes

Calling your own captain a liability because of optics is rotten enough. Adding racism and homophobia on top of that is beyond foul.

@Daily_Puck

At this point, Montreal’s silence is becoming part of the story. The interview is out. Other teams have spoken. Public anger is growing. The organisation at the centre of it has still said nothing.

@TheRinkReport

As reaction continues to intensify, attention is increasingly turning to Montreal’s lack of comment. Multiple teams, players, and media figures have now responded publicly to Hollander’s interview and the leaked texts.

@greaselinetalk

Montreal really sitting this out like maybe everyone will just get bored and go away huh

@MontrealVoyageursOfficial

The Montreal Voyageurs are aware of the concerns raised following recent reports and public discussion this week.

We understand that this situation has been upsetting for many. The content described in the reported messages is deeply troubling and, if authentic, would not reflect the standards or values of our organisation.

We are currently reviewing the matter internally and remain in communication with the league as appropriate. While that process is ongoing, our priority is to approach these concerns with care, seriousness, and responsibility.

Effective immediately, all players, coaches, and hockey operations staff will take part in mandatory sensitivity and inclusion training, with specific focus on equality awareness. We will also be making charitable contributions to the Irina Foundation and to other charities supporting LGBTQ+ rights and equity initiatives.

We remain committed to learning from this moment and to taking any appropriate next steps once the facts have been fully established.

@icingsarenotreal

Not naming the people harmed is certainly a choice.

@goalmouthgrace

“The content described in the reported messages” say what actually happened or do not bother posting at all.

@softcheeseenergy

“if authentic” but also mandatory training immediately 😭 oh okay so you do think it happened then

@hattrickghost

This reads like they are apologising for the optics, not the harm.

@creasegremlin

training and donations are not accountability. be serious.

@tinyzamboni

so the punishment is what exactly. a seminar and a cheque. cool.

@leftpostlarry

No names. No consequences. No urgency. Just internal review and vibes.

@warmupjacket

No one trusts “we’re handling it internally” when the whole issue is what was happening internally.

@clockwatcher88

“once the facts have been fully established” = buying time and hoping the temperature drops

@rinksidedrip

they somehow made an apology sound like an hr email 💀

@puckandprose

The statement is carefully written to acknowledge public concern without accepting concrete responsibility. It is far more interested in process than accountability.

@boardsideview

No interim suspensions. No one stepped away from the team. No disciplinary action announced at all. That tells me plenty.

@snackbetweenperiods

The donations bit is especially gross. Charity is not a substitute for consequences.

@glassandice

The “equity initiatives” phrasing is doing a very convenient job of blurring the racism into something softer and less specific.

@dropglovespls

mandatory training is what you do when someone misses a policy update. not when your room is rotten.

@carparkpuck

This is absolutely a statement written for sponsors first.

@twineandtape

This feels less like a response and more like an attempt to contain a spill.

@civicarena

If your first instinct is sensitivity training, you still think this is a perception problem.

@iceburnbook

Backlash to Montreal’s statement is centring on four broad criticisms: the refusal to name those harmed, the lack of announced consequences, the use of distancing language around the alleged messages, and the organisation’s emphasis on training and donations.

@TapeToTapeTalk

Montreal’s statement appears to have intensified the reaction rather than calmed it, with many responses describing it as evasive, weak, and overly focused on managing fallout.

@greaselinetalk

Very strong “can we all move on now” energy from Montreal here

@softcheeseenergy

they really thought sensitivity training and donations were gonna close the door on this huh

@icingsarenotreal

@NoStringsJourno if thats the full extent of their response, let em have it

@peachykeen_

@NoStringsJourno if they think this is enough, rip it open

@NoStringsJourno

@MontrealVoyageursOfficial you were warned [link]

Chapter Notes

The gloves are off

Private Voyageurs Group Chat Fully Exposed After Team and League Fail to Act

Content Warning: The following article contains strong language and references to racist and homophobic remarks. In the transcriptions below, some explicit slurs have been partially obscured. Other language appears as written. Reader discretion is advised.

Earlier this week, this journalist released an article outlining alleged racist and homophobic remarks contained within a private group chat reportedly involving six members of the Montreal Voyageurs.

At the time, the material had been provided by a source inside the organisation who feared internal repercussions. The source did not approach team media or league communications. Instead, the images were delivered directly to an unaffiliated reporter with no contractual ties to the organisation, in the hope that the truth would not be buried.

The initial article made two things clear. First, that the messages, if genuine, raised significant questions about locker room culture, internal trust, and the gap between public support and private belief. Second, that the names had been removed, and the content limited, to allow Montreal time to investigate internally.

Montreal were warned that if the messages were proven genuine and no action was taken, this publication would release the fuller record.

What followed was not meaningful action. It was a holding statement. It was process language. It was sensitivity training, charitable donations, and an internal review. It was, notably, not accountability.

This publication has since undertaken further verification and can now state that the messages are genuine.

The source who provided the messages has confirmed that he can now be identified: Montreal goaltender Patrice Drapeau.

Drapeau was not one of the participants in the group chat. According to Drapeau, he came across the messages accidentally after one of the six players left a phone in his vicinity and notifications from the group chat began appearing on screen. He told this journalist that he was disgusted not only by the content of the messages, but by the casual way in which they were discussed. He also stated that the material struck close to home, as members of his own family have been directly affected by both racism and homophobia.

According to Drapeau, internal discussions after the first article focused quickly on optics. What would make the team look serious. What response would play well publicly. Whether players sitting out for a few games would be enough. Whether training and donations would allow the team to present itself as proactive without forcing a deeper reckoning. Drapeau also stated that comparisons were made behind closed doors to the Dallas Kent situation, not in terms of harm, but in terms of managing fallout.

Montreal were warned that a distinct lack of action on their part would lead to consequences.

In the hours following the team’s public statement, this publication contacted the Montreal Voyageurs to confirm that the messages had been verified and to advise that the organisation’s response did not constitute meaningful action. The team was informed that, in the absence of accountability, the names previously withheld would be published alongside the fuller record.

A spokesperson for the organisation declined to comment on whether any suspensions, removals, or disciplinary measures were being considered beyond those already referenced publicly. When asked whether the team wished to revise or expand its statement in light of that verification, the response was brief.

“We do not believe further public comment is warranted at this stage.”

That was their opportunity.

These are the consequences.

The participants in the chat were:

  • Gilbert Comeau
  • Étienne Gagnon
  • Marc-André Boucher
  • Luc Renaud
  • Tyler Keating
  • Milan Vuković

The images span several months following the public confirmation of Shane Hollander’s relationship with Ilya Rozanov.

What they reveal is not a single emotional reaction. It is a pattern.

The tone shifts between mockery, resentment, sexual humiliation, racial commentary, and repeated questioning of Hollander’s judgement, leadership, and place in the room. Rozanov is mocked and used as a vehicle for further abuse. Hollander’s Japanese heritage is referenced more than once. His race and sexuality are treated by several participants as explanation enough for why he could not be benched without inviting scrutiny. Explicit slurs directed at both Hollander’s sexuality and heritage are present throughout. Some have been partially obscured below.

Before turning to the messages themselves, this publication spoke to two players whose perspectives carry particular weight.

Ottawa forward Troy Barrett, one of the few openly gay players in the league before Hollander and Rozanov were publicly outed, said the messages were disturbing not because they were exceptional, but because they exposed how quickly prejudice becomes ordinary when no one interrupts it.

Barrett: “The ugliest part of this is not one line or one joke. It is how comfortable they are. That is what should worry people. Not just what was said, but how easy it seems to have been to say it.”

This publication also spoke to Montreal forward Hayden Pike, whom Hollander identified in an interview as the only teammate who stood by him from the outset.

Pike did not comment on the identities of the six players named above. He did comment on the atmosphere around Hollander after the relationship became public.

Pike: “If people are uncomfortable reading those messages now, they should sit with that. Shane had to live around that atmosphere. He had to keep showing up in the same room, every day, and do his job while people were thinking like that, talking like that, and deciding what kind of man he was because of who he loved.”

Asked whether the release of the full messages should change anything inside the organisation, Pike was brief.

Pike: “It should. If it doesn’t, that tells you everything.”

What follows are selected transcriptions from the fuller record.

After the relationship becomes public

The earliest exchanges are not framed as shock so much as grievance. Hollander’s privacy is treated not as his own, but as something withheld from the room.

Comeau: so how long have we all looked stupid then

Keating: enough that everyone else got to know before us apparently

Gagnon: captain shouldve said something. instead we find out with the whole world. weak as shit

Renaud: whole thing makes sense now. always knew something was off

Boucher: fucking homo

Vuković: which one of them is the girl then

Comeau: obviously Hollander, Rozanov wouldn’t even have to hold him down

Keating: soft as shit. always was

The exchange continues.

Gagnon: if he can hide that for years what else is he hiding

Renaud: exactly

Comeau: and we’re supposed to trust his judgement still?

Boucher: eleven years and he says nothing. what else does he think hes above saying

The issue here is not simply that Hollander kept part of his private life private. It is that the men in the chat treat privacy itself as evidence of weakness, dishonesty, or both.

On race, image, and “optics”

As noted in the original article, several comments reference Hollander’s mixed heritage. The fuller record confirms that these were not isolated remarks.

Keating: cant believe we’re all acting surprised. look at him

Boucher: yeah. guess he checks enough boxes

Vuković: if he was white he’d already be fucking benched

Comeau: but we cant touch him now

Gagnon: poster boy shit

Renaud: league’s dream. captain, mixed, now this

Keating: try sitting him and see how that plays

In another thread, after discussion of how the league might react to benching Hollander, one participant writes:

Boucher: they’d make us all the bad guys and him the perfect little victim

A later exchange is more direct.

Renaud: wonder if they’d care this much if he didnt look like a diversity campaign

Keating: they would not

Vuković: no chance

The phrasing is not ambiguous. Hollander’s race and sexuality are treated as barriers to discipline. The resentment is overt. So is the racism.

After the loss to Ottawa

The first article quoted from an exchange following a loss to Ottawa after a fall from Hollander. The fuller conversation is longer.

Comeau: you really expect me to believe that was just a fluke

Renaud: no chance

Gagnon: been playing both sides. fucking obvious now

Keating: maybe he forgot what jersey he had on

Boucher: probably wanted his boyfriend to have the win

Vuković: captain of montreal and still on his knees for ottawa, f[*]g

Comeau: if that was anyone else theyd be pulled

Renaud: if that was anyone else coach wouldve buried them

This is not ordinary post-game anger. The suspicion is immediate, personal, and routed straight through Hollander’s sexuality and relationship.

On leadership

The messages repeatedly return to leadership, but not in a constructive sense. Hollander’s role as captain becomes another avenue for attack.

Gagnon: captain shouldve been honest or stepped down

Comeau: agreed

Boucher: whole room feels off now

Renaud: because he made it off

Vuković: no one says it but everyone knows he’s a liability now

Keating: this is why you dont let that shit into the room

Comeau: league’s loving this. we look like idiots

Gagnon: we look like idiots because nobody can say anything without it turning into a headline

The word “liability” appears multiple times across the images. So does the suggestion that Hollander’s continued leadership is now more trouble than it is worth.

One exchange is especially blunt.

Renaud: dont care what anyone says, captaincy means trusting his judgement

Boucher: yeah and his is clearly fucked. Choosing to be a homo?

Comeau: no one trusts him now

The issue, as framed within the chat, is not Hollander’s conduct on the ice. It is the inconvenience of who he is and what that now means for the team’s image.

On benching Hollander

The original article noted that Hollander and Rozanov had been benched in the immediate aftermath of their relationship becoming public. The fuller record makes clear that, for some participants, the issue was not that Hollander had been benched. It was that the benching had not gone far enough.

Comeau: sit him again and move on

Keating: cant

Boucher: not now

Vuković: try it and watch the league shit itself

Renaud: doesnt matter what he does now. can’t touch him

Gagnon: amazing how quick standards disappear when optics get involved

Comeau: if he looked like any of us he’d already be gone from the top line

Keating: no one wants to be the one who pulls him permanently

Drapeau’s account of internal conversations suggests this frustration was not confined to the players in the chat. According to Drapeau, there was anger within parts of the staff not because Hollander had been benched, but because they did not believe they were free to bench him for longer, or more permanently, without triggering further scrutiny. In Drapeau’s words, “the feeling was that they’d done it once and still couldn’t just deal with him the way they wanted.”

That matters. It shows how fully image had displaced judgement. The question had ceased to be what was right and become what was manageable.

On Rozanov

Rozanov is not spared. He is mocked, sexualised, and treated as a contaminating force.

Boucher: all this for fucking rozanov too

Renaud: imagine throwing away a room for that

Comeau: maybe he likes being bossed around by ottawa

Vuković: he always looked at him weird

Keating: homo

Gagnon: this whole thing makes every game against ottawa look dirty now

In another exchange:

Comeau: cant wait for everyone to act like this is some tragic love story

Boucher: please. its just gross

The fixation is not only on the relationship itself, but on how that relationship can be used to rewrite prior games, prior interactions, and Hollander’s entire place in the room.

What is notably absent

As noted in the first article, the earlier excerpts contained no pushback.

The fuller record does not change that assessment.

No participant challenges the racist comments.

No participant challenges the homophobic comments.

No one suggests restraint.

No one objects to the language.

No one tells anyone to stop.

The language, while crude, appears normalised.

That remains one of the most significant facts in the record. Not merely that these six men said such things, but that within this space they appear to have understood them as sayable.

What was happening behind closed doors

The group chat is not the only reason Drapeau has stepped away from anonymity.

According to Drapeau, internal discussions following the initial leak focused quickly on response strategy. Not whether the conduct warranted serious consequences, but what would “look right” publicly. Whether training and donations would satisfy scrutiny. Whether player absences would need to be long enough to appear meaningful but short enough to avoid disruption. Whether the team could point to previous league scandals as guidance for how much would be expected before attention moved on.

Drapeau described those conversations as “all about getting through it.”

No transcript exists of those meetings, and none is presented here as such. But the logic Drapeau described is consistent with the statement Montreal later issued. A statement that did not name Hollander or Rozanov. A statement that did not announce any concrete consequences for the six players identified above. A statement that focused on process, learning, and charitable giving rather than conduct, harm, or accountability.

One current player from another team, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the private chat “reads exactly like what players say when they think no one decent is listening.”

Another, also anonymous, put it more bluntly.

“If the league’s instinct was to flatten the story when the relationship first became public, and this was the room’s instinct after, then Montreal is not the whole problem. It’s just the first place anyone has actually seen.”

That possibility has hovered over this story from the beginning.

Because every room gets tested.

Every organisation gets tested.

And public support is one thing. Private belief is another.

Why the names are being published now

Names were withheld in the original article to allow space for verification and action.

The verification has now been done.

The action has not.

The participants are being named because the messages are genuine, the conduct is severe, and the response from the organisation has given no serious indication that meaningful consequences are forthcoming.

The first article was a warning.

This is the fuller record.

And what it shows is not simply six players saying ugly things in private. It shows what private belief looks like when prejudice is normalised, when accountability is treated as optional, and when institutions remain more comfortable managing fallout than confronting what caused it.

Behind closed doors, support means very little.

Chapter 3

@TheRinkReport

The publication of the full Montreal group chat record has triggered immediate backlash across the league, with teams, players, sponsors, and advocacy groups now responding publicly.

@ChicagoFalconsOfficial

No actually, let’s be clearer this time. If this is what was being said behind closed doors, then every person who stayed quiet until now helped create the mess.

@coffeeandchaos

oh they are MAD mad now

@TorontoGuardiansOfficial

There is no version of this that gets solved with a statement and a donation link.

@softcheeseenergy

TORONTO SAID ACTUALLY NO TRY AGAIN 😭

@BostonBearsOfficial

Read the full article. Then ask yourself what exactly Montreal thought would happen next.

@mintchipplease

no because this is the first time the teams sound like actual people and not press releases

@SeattleStormOfficial

bruh...

[Attached: screenshots of the texts]

@greaselinetalk

SEATTLE HELLO?????

@Daily_Puck

The tone of team responses has shifted noticeably since the full article. The language is less sympathetic now. More condemning.

@NYAdmiralsOfficial

If your room sounds like this in private, your values were never real in public.

@apartmentplantmom

that is SUCH a “you have one last chance not to fuck this up” statement

@VancouverBreakersOfficial

Not “disappointing.” Not “concerning.” Vile.

@marblesoup

vancouver said let me save everyone some time

@DallasWranglersOfficial

At some point “internal review” just means “we are hoping you move on.” We will not.

@northendnotes

dallas just called them out for stalling in one sentence lmao

@ColoradoSummitOfficial

The article is stomach turning. The response to it should be simple. Remove the men involved. Anything less is theatre.

@pixelatedrain

yeah no the league teams are done pretending this is a misunderstanding

@TapeToTapeTalk

Multiple team accounts are now openly rejecting Montreal’s “training and donations” response as insufficient.

@TheScottHunter

Every time this sport gets the chance to prove it has changed, someone like Montreal reminds us how much of it was branding.

@watchingwarmups

scott hunter always sounds like he’s handing down judgement from the mountain

@HaydenPikeNHL

Read it all. Then tell me again this was just “locker room talk.”

@thatsnotmycat

HAYDEN SAID OH WE’RE DONE HERE

@Barrett_Troy

Anyone still treating this like six isolated men saying ugly things is either naive or lying to themselves.

@peachykeen_

troy barrett always says exactly enough and somehow still hits like a truck

@Zane_Boodram

No one gets to call this a misunderstanding anymore. It is hatred. It is cowardice. It is a culture problem.

@RoseLandryOfficial

I hope every person who smiled in Shane’s face and typed that shit in private has the week they deserve.

@Mildpanic

rose is going to kill a man on main and honestly fair

@Svetlana

Turns out “inclusive environment” was just a sentence they knew how to say out loud.

@issaavocadothnx

svetlana always sounds like she hates everyone equally and i respect that

@NorthStarAthletics

We are aware of the reporting published today concerning the Montreal Voyageurs. Effective immediately, we are pausing all promotional activity involving the organisation while we review the matter further.

@cerealandstatic

AND THERE IT IS. first sponsor gone

@PulseMobile

No campaign is worth this. Partnership suspended.

@greaselinetalk

PULSEMOBILE SAID absolutely not 😭

@HydraEnergy

We have removed all Voyageurs related content from our channels while we assess next steps.

@sleepdeprivedowl

oh my god they’re scrubbing them live

@freshicefeeds

Three Voyageurs sponsors have now publicly paused or suspended activity with the organisation following publication of the full article.

@TrueNorthBank

The conduct described in today’s reporting is incompatible with our partnership standards. We have informed the Montreal Voyageurs that we will not be renewing our agreement.

@mintchipplease

NOT RENEWING????? oh thats even worse actually

@TheIrinaFoundation

The Irina Foundation was informed of a forthcoming donation from the Montreal Voyageurs. We will not be accepting it.

@marblesoup

OH MY GOD

@coffeeandchaos

THE CHARITY SAID KEEP YOUR MONEY 😭😭😭

@RainbowYouthNorth

Community support cannot be used to offset institutional harm. We have declined the organisation’s proposed contribution.

@softcheeseenergy

they really thought they could buy their way out of a hate chat and got publicly told no twice. wow.

@EastAsianSportCollective

We do not provide reputational cover for organisations unwilling to name and remove the people responsible for racist conduct.

@glassandice

yeah okay that one should make them feel physically ill

@OnTheIceReport

The article does not just expose a room. It exposes a system that tried to flatten the story at the top and contain it at club level.

@puckandprose

That is the part that should scare people most. Montreal is the first time anyone got a window. Not the first time it happened.

@Daily_Puck

There are scandals, and then there are institutional rot stories. This is the second kind.

@overtimeeyes

daily puck really said this is not drama this is decay

@TheRinkReport

A league source, speaking on background, says the commissioner’s office is under growing pressure to intervene directly rather than continue to leave the response with Montreal.

@tinyzamboni

oh now the LEAGUE is sweating good

@offsideopinion

If the commissioner’s office had not already embarrassed itself trying to flatten the original outing, maybe “trust the process” would land better here.

@rinksidedrip

right because lets not forget the league’s first idea was “call it a prank” and now suddenly we’re supposed to believe they care about integrity

@NYAdmiralsOfficial

The issue is no longer whether this was serious. The issue is whether Montreal and the league intend to treat it that way.

@carparkpuck

admirals social admin absolutely ate with that one sorry

@VancouverBreakersOfficial

The men named in the article should not be dressing while this is reviewed. Anything less is avoidance.

@dropglovespls

there we go. first team saying it plainly

@SeattleStormOfficial

A room is not poisoned by one text. It is poisoned by repetition, permission, and the decision not to stop it.

@greywindow

that is unfortunately a very good line

@TheScottHunter

Every young player watching this is learning something. The question is what.

@cassetteghost

that one is going to sit in my stomach for HOURS

@MontrealBusinessDaily

Sources indicate at least one additional corporate partner is now reconsidering its relationship with the Montreal Voyageurs following the publication of the full player names.

@warmupjacket

someone start a sponsor tracker thread because this is getting insane

@freshicefeeds

Sponsor tracker:

NorthStar Athletics, promotional activity paused

PulseMobile, partnership suspended

HydraEnergy, Voyageurs content removed

TrueNorthBank, agreement not being renewed

@peachykeen_

they’re dropping like flies holy shit

@HaydenPikeNHL

If you are looking at the names and still thinking first about optics, you have learned nothing.

@watchingwarmups

hayden is absolutely done being polite

@Barrett_Troy

A lot of people are asking whether six names means six bad men. No. It means six named men. That is not the same thing.

@Mildpanic

TROY. jesus christ.

@TheRinkReport

Backlash is now widening beyond the six named players, with increasing questions being asked of Montreal’s coaching staff, executives, and the league’s earlier handling of the outing itself.

@greaselinetalk

yeah because once the room is this rotten i stop believing nobody with power noticed the smell

@PulseMobileHelp

For those asking, yes, all Montreal Voyageurs digital ad placements have now been removed from our active campaign rotation.

@coffeeandchaos

customer support confirming the breakup publicly is CRAZY 😭

@TapeToTapeTalk

Montreal really looked at a six man hate chat, an exposed internal optics meeting, and a named locker room source and thought “sensitivity training” was the play.

@northendnotes

That is the part i keep coming back to. your OWN goalie thought the only option left was to leak it.

@PatriceDrapeau31

I did not do this for praise. I did it because too many people kept asking the wrong questions.

@softcheeseenergy

DRAPEAU on main??????

@mintchipplease

not him dropping one sentence and walking away. king.

@cerealandstatic

patrice drapeau whistleblower statue when

@tinyzamboni

the way Drapeau just lit a match and walked away. king behaviour actually

@goalmouthgrace

Montreal thought this was a bad week. It’s actually the collapse of everything people tolerated about them.

@iceburnbook

Not enough people are talking about the fact the source was another Montreal player. That’s how bad it had to get.

@EastCoastSportsNet

BREAKING: The Montreal Voyageurs have called an emergency press conference for later this evening as pressure continues to mount from sponsors, partner organisations, and the league.

@marblesoup

oh they are COOKED

@offsideopinion

Unless that press conference includes removals, suspensions, and a direct acknowledgment of racism and homophobia, it is just a longer version of the same lie.

@TheIrinaFoundation

To clarify, our decision was not based on timing or process. It was based on the inadequacy of the organisation’s response.

@glassandice

they came back to make it MORE humiliating. incredible.

@ChicagoFalconsOfficial

No one is confused about what meaningful action looks like. The only question is whether Montreal is willing to take it.

@tuesdaymood

yeah no this chapter of hockey history is just everyone publicly daring montreal to do the obvious thing

@ColoradoSummitOfficial

This is now bigger than one team. But it is still one team’s responsibility.

@Daily_Puck

Montreal’s problem tonight is no longer just outrage. It is isolation.

@greaselinetalk

and that, children, is how you become radioactive

@EastCoastSportsNet

BREAKING: New Montreal GM Elise Fournier confirms the contracts of Gilbert Comeau, Étienne Gagnon, Marc-André Boucher, Luc Renaud, Tyler Keating, and Milan Vuković have been terminated, effective immediately. Says a “full restructure” of coaching and hockey operations is already underway.

@TheRinkReport

Fournier: “The conduct exposed in those messages was racist, homophobic, and cruel. The organisation’s earlier response fell short. That failure belongs to us. … We apologise to Shane Hollander, to Ilya Rozanov, and to anyone else affected by the hate shared by our previous players. We will be seeking external guidance, including from the Irina Foundation and East-Asian Sport Collective, as we begin the work of rebuilding this organisation.”

@Daily_Puck

It took public humiliation, sponsor flight, charity refusals, and a named source from inside the room, but Montreal have finally been dragged into saying the right words

@TorontoGuardiansOfficial

Closer

@greaselinetalk

“closer” is SUCH a brutal response 😭

Bood: Hey

Bood: No pressure to answer right away

Bood: Just wanted to check in with you both after all of this new bullshit

Bood: The team BBQ is meant to be this weekend, but if you want more time, we can push it back

Bood: Or cancel it altogether

Bood: Whatever you need

Bood: Don’t want you feeling like you had to show up for everyone else if you’re not up for it

Bood: Everyone will understand

Shane: Thanks, Bood

Ilya: I think being around friends might be just what we need

Shane: Yeah, I agree

Shane: As much as I love my parents, I want to be around people that won’t treat me with kid’s gloves

Ilya: I’m telling Yuna!

Shane: No, don't!

Ilya: 😈

Ilya: Bood, what are we bringing?

Bood: Just yourselves

Bood: Cassie also says Vodka

Ilya: Obviously
