February 2026

The crowd was deafening as one of the most anticipated games this Olympics gets ready to start - especially for those who know Ilya and Shane Hollander-Rozanov (A and C for CAN, respectively) have all but formally adopted Luca Haas (player for SUI) and been training him since his rookie season in the MHL with the Cens. The audience would like to know whether the student has reached his masters' levels.

The captains for Team Canada and Team Switzerland take centre ice for the faceoff. 

Shane is laser-focused on the ice, and the Swiss Captain answers in kind. The puck is dropped, and Canada wins the faceoff.

As Luca races to steal the puck from Hollzy, and he WAS almost there, he is blocked by Roz, who slams him to the boards. “My traitorous son, we see each other.”

“Ok, grandpa.” Luca rolls his eyes for effect.

Roz stares in shock at Haas for a split second and then smirks. Evilly. He skates away to keep up with the puck.

Roz didn’t have the chance to chirp him again until the next faceoff. Luca was sent to the centre line and quietly gulped when he realised it was Roz coming to him.

“I think you’re in wrong place,” Roz started. Luca stayed put, determined not to let Roz affect him. “Kindergarten is down the road.”

“And the old people’s home is right next to it,” Luca chirps.

Roz laughed out loud. Luca won the faceoff.

But Rozanov, 34-year-old Ilya Hollander-Rozanov, is as fast on skates as any other rookie whose bones are still intact and whose joints are not creaking yet. He was on Luca’s ass before one could even blink. “Time to sleep, baby Haasy,” he says as he steals the puck and, without a second thought, swings it to his right. All while sporting the smirk that made all of the league drop gloves (a sudden understanding of the other players now dawned on him). All without looking. As if knowing that his husband, Shane Hollander-Rozanov, a hockey god himself, will be right there.

And he was.

In the end, Canada won: 5-1. It was expected, really, but Team Switzerland put up a good showing.

At the handshake line, Roz gripped his hand. “Nice chirps, Haasy.”

“It was very useful advice from a retiree,” Luca answers simply. Roz narrowed his eyes.
