We don’t owe this to anyone. But we’ve also been playing professional hockey for seventeen years and we’ve both run out of ahem, cares to give.

Notes

this fic came about because
1) there are few things I love more than a relationship timeline reveal fic,
2) heavily took the advice of "write the fic you want to read" and "authors might be nervous to write the same topic already posted about before but readers are over the moon to get another fic in their favorite tag",
3) I LOVE fics where shane and ilya reveal the CCM photoshoot was the day they first hooked up, but I really wanted shane to just deadpan "that was hours before we kissed the first time, btw."

I’m usually not one to comment on any type of controversy, but it’s been long enough that I might as well set the record straight. Or set the record gay, whatever. Ilya told me that would be the funnier phrasing. 

I’ve seen many publications over the years speculating on my own, and my husband’s, hockey stats and accolades in relation to our romantic relationship and when the public assumes it started. The most recent HockeyQuire article is one of probably thousands on the internet. We have never disclosed this information as it was never relevant to our careers, and it still isn’t. 

We don’t owe this to anyone. But we’ve also been playing professional hockey for seventeen years and we’ve both run out of ahem, cares, to give. So, if you’re joining the statisticians in wondering if our relationship has ever weakened our game, here is all the information you need to make that decision.

On the left is a list of all of my and Ilya’s career wins, accomplishments, awards, records, medals, etc. Had to make the font very, very small to all fit on one page so you might need to zoom in. Thank you to Wikipedia and NHL-IQ for helping fill in gaps. It was hard to remember them all.

We’ve been romantically involved in some way for the entirety of our careers. Every award we’ve received, every record we’ve broken, every win we celebrated with our teams, happened at the same time we were going from casual to falling in love. You just didn’t know it. 

You’re right; stats don’t lie. And what our stats prove is that we’ve always been the best - in the entire sport - when we’re together.

My Shanya was out taking our beautiful daughter for a walk. As always, he kissed me on the cheek and told me he loves me first before leaving. He just got back into the house and is grabbing some things for us to watch the sunset together. 

Shane has done and still does too many romantic things for me to even list. But most of all, it was his idea to name @IrinaFoundation after my mother and dedicate it to her. So he wins at grand romantic gestures for the rest of our lives. This is the only win I will concede to him.
