Notes
just come be the man I need
Sometimes, Kip just wants someone to shut his brain off.
And he feels a little silly for that, because it’s not like he leads a life of high-powered pressure. The Straw+Berry isn’t exactly a Wall Street job, and outside of that, the most stressful thing he does is consider grad school. He hasn’t even applied yet.
Still, an uneventful life doesn’t equate to a quiet brain. Mostly it’s the opposite, actually. Maria called him a fun-sized little bouncy ball of anxiety once and she wasn’t entirely wrong. He often feels aimless, adrift. The gears in his head constantly grinding against nothing.
Naturally, Kip’s overthinking brain sought an outlet for all that in sex, which wasn’t the most successful endeavor. A few ill-advised hook-ups later, Kip had learned a valuable lesson: He doesn’t like dominance, he likes competence. Anyone can tie you up and order you around, but if it doesn’t feel like they know what they’re doing, Kip’s brain will just go into overdrive instead of the much-desired sleep mode. Successfully making things even worse.
Enter Scott Hunter.
They haven’t been seeing each other long, but Kip has so many feelings for him he could fill novels with it, which is kind of a problem in itself that he currently refuses to acknowledge. But Scott is very much the picture of competence. Maybe not the most sexually experienced (which Kip actually kind of likes, but that’s a whole other box of insecurities he would not like to open at this point in time, thank you very much), but Scott sure can lead. He makes it look effortless.
And Kip knows it’s a role, to some degree, but Scott seems to like playing it well enough sometimes. Kip loves that wicked grin that appears on Scott’s face when he pushes Kip around just a little bit and gets him all hot and flustered.
Though when he tries to explain that to Scott, words fail him. When Scott asks what he wants, Kip doesn’t really know. He only knows what he wants to feel like.
“That’s all right,” Scott says. “You just show me the goal and I’ll figure out the play.”
Really?, Kip’s raised eyebrows ask and Scott just laughs. Fine. He can tolerate a hockey metaphor for the sake of having his brains scrambled by Scott’s dick.
Scott asks him all kinds of questions after that. He’s responsible about it like he is about everything else, clearly doing his research. It makes Kip feel like he’s in good hands. He tells Scott to just keep it simple.
When Scott gives him a sleep mask and a pair of earplugs one evening, Kip isn’t sure what it’s supposed to mean. “Are we…optimizing our sleep quality?”
“No,” Scott replies simply and gives Kip a look that makes his knees weak. Oh. Okay.
This is one of the things Kip specifically asked for: he doesn’t want to know the plan. If there’s something he doesn’t like, he’ll say it. But mostly, he just wants to be…directed.
Scott kisses him for a while, slow and gentle, his hands warm all over Kip as he takes both their clothes off piece by piece. The heat that builds between them is as tangible as ever, but more of an afterthought this time. There’s no urgency, and Kip lets himself drift into it.
“Here,” Scott says softly, guiding Kip to kneel on a pillow on the floor by the foot of the bed. He sits with his legs spread wide, his knees either side of Kip’s shoulders, caging him in. Safe.
Kip pulls the sleep mask over his eyes, the little foam cushions dragging along his skin while he positions it. The ear plugs go in next and the world around him starts feeling a little fuzzy as they expand. The ever-present background noise of the city disappears. He’s in the dark. Quiet.
“Can you still hear me okay?”
“Yeah,” Kip replies, his voice sounding too close to his own ears. “Yeah, I –” He reaches out for Scott, one hand coming to rest on his thigh. He feels a little unsteady like this, but not in a bad way. Like he’s underwater. Floating.
“I got you,” Scott says and leans down for a kiss, one hand strong and steady on the side of Kip’s neck. Kip nods and can’t fight the tiny sound that makes its way out of his throat. He’s grounded here. He’s fine. He’s enough.
Scott runs his thumb across Kip’s lower lip, his fingers on the side of Kip’s face pressing on his jaw, a little nudge to open his mouth. Then, Scott’s leg hooking over Kip’s shoulder, pulling him in. He can’t see, but he can feel the heat of Scott’s skin, the coarse hair on the inside on his thigh now pressed against Kip’s cheek. Can smell him, so close.
Kip’s breath stutters when he feels the tip of Scott’s cock press against his lips, hot silky skin slick with precome that he licks off immediately. Scott’s hand moves to the back of his head, cradling him. Gently, not pressing down.
“You gonna open up for me, baby?” It sounds so light, almost a little amused.
Kip can feel more than hear himself whimper. Yes. Yes. He wants to give, to be guided and led and then to be able to give his all rather than having it taken from him. How Scott already seems to understand that so well, he doesn’t know, but it fills him with a deep sense of peace. I got you. He really does.
It’s so easy now, to lose himself in it. The heavy weight on Kip’s tongue, the pressure against his throat. Scott keeping his head in place almost as a suggestion more than an instruction, pumping into his mouth because Kip is letting him.
Kip can hear his own breathing, loud in his ears, can feel the familiar sting of tears forming in his eyes like they always do when he takes Scott deep into his throat like this.
“So good, you’re so good, you’re amazing.”
Scott’s voice, muffled by the earplugs, kind of sounds like someone is talking to Kip from another dimension and he basks in the praise. He’s doing good. He’s giving Scott everything and Scott is happy with it, it’s enough.
Kip gasps when Scott pulls out of his mouth and starts moving around, but Scott keeps him close so well that it doesn’t have a chance to manifest into any sort of concern. A moment later he’s kissing Kip again, and he must be kneeling on the floor with him, because Kip can feel Scott’s arm moving between them, the back of his hand dragging against Kip’s stomach as he jerks himself off.
“Scott,” Kip whispers, and he doesn’t even know what he’s trying to say, but Scott hears it. He kisses him harder, pressing him close with one hand on his back and finishing himself off with the other, and Kip can feel the familiar groans vibrating in Scott’s chest, rides out the stutter in his hips with him as Scott spills hotly between them.
Scott never stops kissing him, even as he pulls Kip to his feet and nudges him backwards until he falls back onto the bed – one thrilling second of dropping down without sight or sound and then Scott is back on him, kissing his chest and his stomach, licking over his skin where Kip knows he must be covered in come, all while one hand is always holding Kip’s, squeezing his fingers, constant reassurance. I got you.
When Scott takes him into his mouth, it’s the first time Kip even consciously registers that he’s hard, and probably has been for a while. Scott is eager but not demanding, sucking him like the pleasure of the moment is the whole point and not like they’re chasing something. Kip still feels like he’s floating away, a part in the back of his mind telling him he’s done well and that’s why he gets to enjoy this, deserves to feel good now.
He buries his fingers in Scott’s hair when he can feel himself getting close and Scott hums around him, gives his hand another little squeeze. It’s encouragement to let go but it also feels like permission, like Kip could completely fall apart right now and Scott would collect all the pieces.
Kip comes with that imagine in mind, his entire body arching and shaking with it, each wave carrying him a little further out of his head. The silence in his brain is amazing.
The next thing he registers is Scott’s breath against his face, little kisses peppered everywhere and a hand stroking his hair.
“You okay?” Scott asks and Kip realizes he’s smiling, big and happy, the endorphins in his blood dancing like little champagne bubbles.
Kip nods and blindly seeks out Scott’s mouth for a kiss, a little off-center on the first try.
“You wanna take this off?” Scott is tugging on the sleep mask and Kip’s hands fly up to keep it in place.
“Not yet,” he says softly and feels his cheeks heat. He’s not ready to leave that warm, fuzzy place Scott has taken him to, wants to stay in this little pocket of space that seems to exist somewhere outside of reality as long as possible.
“Okay.” Scott simply pulls him close and kisses his forehead, letting Kip hide his face against his chest. “You were so beautiful,” Scott whispers, “are so beautiful. All the time. I hope that made you feel good.”
Kip doesn’t know how to explain how he’s feeling; like his body has found something it already needed for such a long time and could never quite get, like all the constant noise stopped for a moment. Scott would understand though, he knows, if he did find the words. Scott would like this, too. Maybe it would be easier to just show him sometime.

…and then a few weeks later they break up and everything is terrible ahhh
Anyway. Some discussions were had on the Skip discord yesterday and that’s my take on it :) I feel like garbage today but when your brain says the introspective smut it cooked up wants out, what can you do.
(There is definitely a companion piece to this living in my head with their roles reversed, and it may at some point actually get written too, who knows.)
