The One Where Ilya Rozanov Takes Up Video Editing

by frizzyanya

Summary

After Ilya gets Shane's number, he has an idea for a little video to send Shane for when he misses him (it's not his dick, you perverts). It's meant to be a prank, but Ilya's fondness gets a little out of hand.

Notes

Okay, let me lead with this: This doesn't make sense. Ilya is a silly lovesick fool and nothing about this is rational or realistic, it's just me being gooey over him and him being gooey over Shane. If you go in hoping for high quality literature that's got thoughtful storytelling and logical progressions of scenes, you will be sorely disappointed. But maybe that's not why most of us are here, so it's be okay. We just want to see Ilya be a little silly over Shane, and that's what this is.

I wasn't going to post this until I got high on the responses to my other two fanfics, and now here I am, posting everything. AO3 is addicting.

The One Where Ilya Rozanov Takes Up Video Editing

The day he got Shane's number, Ilya had an idea for a little prank. Just a little video. Something to send him for when he was missing Ilya.

"I have present for you," he said after the first time they played each other in September of the next season. They hadn't seen each other since March.

"A present?" Shane asked skeptically. He was lying blissed out on the hotel room bed, but the words aroused suspicion in him. "What kind of present?" He asked.

Despite his clear reservations, his eyes glanced at Ilya's crotch once before looking down, embarrassed.

"You want it again already, Hollander?" Ilya asked, amused. "You have to wait a little longer, I have to show you something first."

Ilya got up from the bed and fished his phone out of his pants pocket before getting into the bed again. He got under the covers this time, sitting up, just to see what Shane would do. Shane hesitated a moment before matching him and covering his legs and crotch with the sheet. It did nothing to erase Ilya's memory of what was under there.

"For you," he said, texting Shane the video clip.

Shane's eyes widened.

"It is not my dick," Ilya said, rolling his eyes.

Shane blushed, but he grabbed his phone off the bedside table.

"It's..." Shane said as he watched. Then he pursed his lips. On his screen, a highlight reel played of all of Ilya's best moments against Montreal in their first season. Ilya scored goal after goal, stole pucks, made passes, and skated circles around Shane and his teammates.

Ilya had actually worked hard on it. He’d spent more than a little time learning to edit videos just to make it. He’d set it to his own favorite song.

“For when you miss me,” Ilya said, “and need to see me late at night when you’re alone in your bedroom.” The bedroom I’ve never seen, Ilya added in his head but didn’t say aloud.

"Fuck you," Shane said. He sounded irritated, but he was too close to orgasm to be truly angry. "How about you make a highlight reel of me against Boston? I scored a fucking hat trick against you in December."

"I'm not making a highlight reel of you beating Boston," Ilya tsked. Shane looked ready to object, but Ilya talked over him. "But I could make a highlight reel of your other goals."

Shane's eyes narrowed, like he was waiting for the other shoe to drop.

Ilya sent him the second video, just a few taps on his phone.

Shane watched it, somehow even more suspicious than the first video.

But this one was exactly what Ilya had promised. Shane's highlight clips from the previous year. It was set to Montreal's win song. (Ilya didn't know Shane's favorite song, so he'd gone with that.)

It was the kind of highlight reel that could have been used on a video celebrating that he was the rookie of the year, except that it was missing the highlights from the Boston games.

Shane looked like he didn't know what to do with what he was looking at.

"Who made this?" He eventually asked, when he seemed more - though not entirely - willing to accept that there wasn't a prank involved this time. "Someone on YouTube?"

Ilya was surprised Shane knew what YouTube was. He seemed like someone who'd only watch ESPN or the History Channel.

"I made it," Ilya said, pleased with himself. He'd meant to prank Shane with the first video, but then he'd gotten to watching clips of Shane, and he hadn't been able to resist. He'd liked watching the clips too much to stop, and by the end he had exactly 4 minutes and 14 seconds worth of 5-10 second clips of Shane dominating the league. This hadn't been the point. The prank had. But by the end he'd gotten pretty good at editing them together and he couldn't be the only one who saw it. He was a little too addicted to watching Shane dominate on ice set to music. He liked watching it just as much as watching his own highlight reel. Maybe more.

"Where's my hat trick against Boston?" Shane asked, still mesmerized by the video Ilya had handed him of his own plays.

"Not in there," Ilya said, "Obviously." Shane looked up, confused by the last word, so Ilya spelled it out for him. "Because I made it. If someone on YouTube made it, your plays against Boston would be on there. But they didn't. I did. So there is nothing against Boston. Duh."

"But...why?" Shane eventually asked.

Ilya blushed. It was rare. Very little could phase him. But he felt it come on. He tried to shrug it off and act like it didn't matter.

"Because I like watching you skate," Ilya said, trying for nonchalant. He shrugged his shoulder. "Just not against Boston."

Shane's mouth opened and closed a couple of times like he couldn't figure out what to say.

"Do you edit a lot of videos?" was what he eventually said, "like do you make movies and stuff? Or edit movie clips, I guess?"

Ilya decided to be proud of himself. Shane hadn't actually complimented him, but close enough.

"No, I just learned for this," Ilya said, feeling smug.

Shane just stared at him for a long moment, before he practically pounced on top of Ilya.

Ilya liked confusing him. And he liked surprising him. And he definitely liked everything Shane did to Ilya’s body after he saw the prank or gift or whatever he wanted to call it.

Ilya got a good laugh out of the comments on Shane's video.

But the thing was, Shane didn't take it down. All he did was comment "My biggest fan made it, but they're a Boston sympathizer. Next time it'll be all clips from Boston games, promise."

There were about a hundred comments asking why his biggest fan was a Boston fan, and all Shane did to comment in response was a little winking emoji that Ilya knew was just for him.

True to his promise, twenty minutes later there was a highlight reel exactly as he'd suggested. Ilya wondered for a moment if Shane had taken up video editing, but no, he credited the maker in the caption. It was some fan who'd seen him put out the call and risen to the occasion.

Ilya didn't play that video. He went back to his, which was still live on Shane's profile. He'd just watch it one more time. Just once more.

He just really liked watching Shane on the ice.
