Three 8-year-old Girls in a Coffee Shop

by frizzyanya

Summary

Ilya will NOT stand for someone claiming to be Shane's girlfriend, even if that someone is three 8-year-olds in a coffee shop.

Notes

My prior fic "Ilya Rozanov is the World's Biggest Troll" featured Ilya VERY confidently telling everyone around him that he was dating Shane Hollander. And it got me thinking.......that is so Ilya, and it wouldn't just be teammates, it would be EVERYONE. So here's him in a coffee shop with some kids.

Three 8-year-old Girls in a Coffee Shop

"Shane Hollander is MY boyfriend."

"No, he's MY boyfriend!"

"He's mine!"

Ilya turned around, already smiling. He couldn't help it. This was extremely cute.

He was in a coffee shop in Ottawa, hometown of Shane Hollander, so even though this wasn't the city Shane played in, everyone knew him. Even the three eight year olds having a tea party while their moms chatted at the table across the aisle.

Ilya had made an effort to go unnoticed. He'd been intentionally facing away from the door and had a jacket and a Toronto Blue Jays cap on.

But he had to make himself known, for this.

He took off the cap and tried to fluff the hat hair out of his curls before fully turning around.

The three girls were sitting with a pot of tea on the table in front of them and little tea cups on saucers. In the center of the table were scones with cream and jam. They wore party dresses like they were waiting on the queen to join them at any moment. It was adorable.

But they hadn't touched the food yet, because they were too focused on their conversation.

"No," Ilya said dramatically, introducing himself into the conversation, "Shane Hollander is MY boyfriend!"

The girls positively exploded into giggles. It might have drawn attention to them, but Ilya decided he didn’t mind. He hadn’t been planning to stay much longer anyway.

Ilya could see the moms look over and smile. Ilya gave them a wink.

"Are you Ilya Rozanov?" the bravest of the little girls asked. Her hair was in two long braids with bows at the ends.

"I am," Ilya said solemnly, "and Shane Hollander is MY boyfriend."

The girls fell over laughing. One of them ended up on the floor. Ilya grinned. He loved making them this happy.

"You play for Ottawa!" another girl said, "Not Montreal. Shane Hollander can't be your boyfriend!"

As if that was the biggest problem.

Ilya smacked his palm to his cheek.

"I do?" the girls giggled and nodded. "Oh no, is big problem."

"It is," the girl who's spoken up first said solemnly.

"So if he is not my boyfriend...." Ilya began.

"He's mine!"

"Mine!"

"I love him!"

The chorus of excitement continued until one of their moms chastised them for the volume.

“Shhh!” all three girls said to each other loudly.

Ilya held up one finger in front of his lips silently, and the girls quieted down.

“Okay, next time I see Shane Hollander,” Ilya said, leaning in conspiratorially, “I will find out which one of you is his girlfriend. And then I will tell you.”

The little girls ooh’d and ahhh’d.

Ilya stood up and fixed his jacket. He nodded at the table of moms who had watched on with great interest and seemed disappointed he was leaving before they could talk to him. They all smiled back, various combinations of flirtatious and shocked to see him.

The girls were sorry to see him go, but made their goodbyes cheerfully.

As Ilya walked away, he heard, “Mom, can I have an Ilya Rozanov jersey?” And then another voice said, “You can’t, he’s mine.”

Ilya couldn’t contain his smile for the rest of the day.
