By the time Los stumbles out of his bed and into the hall, Breezy is already in Ovi's doorway, the doorknob halfway in the wall, the damage evidently from where he'd thrown Ovi's door open with all the force he could muster. 

Los creeps up, peering over his shoulder, and inhales sharply, all his nerves prickling in faint fear, as the dim grayness reveals a frozen tableau. Ovi sits with his back against the wall, his blankets tugged up over his shoulders, his mouth trembling, his phone clasped loosely in his hands. He's staring at the transparent woman who’s standing at his window, the glittering cloud of her distinctly turned away. 

“Uh,” Los says, slowly nudging past Breezy, paying no mind when he follows him in, glad when Breezy splits from him and darts to the bed, tucking himself in next to Ovi. He feels fucking insane as he stretches a hand out, unsure what the fuck he's doing and desperately wracking his brain. Ghosts need to be invited in for possession, right? He's almost positive, but also, he's just a fucking hockey player, so who fucking knows. His adrenaline has cleared most of the sleep fuzz from his mind, but he still doesn't know how to handle any of this. “Hello?” 

The woman sighs, a slow unraveling of sound that hurts his ears, before she slowly turns, and Los blinks as her body shifts into something far more amorphous, the clean lines of her silhouette dissolving. 

She says something, but the words skip, or tangle, or don't exist, because all that emerges is a chime of bells, the sweet noise of a river babbling, the susurrus of the wind through grass; discordant and beautiful and terrifying. 

“Sorry,” Los says, inching closer before he realizes what he's doing and freezes in place. “I don't—I don't know what that means. It's—sorry. Uh. What are—what are you doing here?” He winces, well aware that he’s going to sound rude as hell, but he can't care, not when this bullshit is happening. “And, uh, can you leave?” 

Breezy snorts on the bed, but Los doesn't dare take his eyes off the woman.

She stares at him for a beat before surging forward, and he darts back, swallowing down a yelp. “How about we don't—we don't do that,” he says sternly, his heart pounding. 

Her face settles into a parody of a smile, all of her pouring back into a human form, before she says something again, the noise of it shivering through him, and abruptly disappears. 

For a long, frozen moment, no one in the room moves. 

“Sleepover,” Breezy snaps out, his voice edging into hysteria. Which—that sounds way better than Los’ singular idea, which was to call Cap and sob down the line. He's not really sure if this counts as a reasonable emergency. “My room.”

“I think I'm gonna pass out,” Ovi says, as Breezy half-drags, half-helps him off his bed, his blanket still tangled around him. “I think I'm gonna—” 

“Do it later,” Breezy orders, his tone sharp with worry, as Los lurches over to help, the three of them a knot of clammy hands and blanket, all sensibility unraveled as they stumble down the hallway, tripping into Breezy's room. And despite their frantic animal-fear panting, their tight grips on each other, their uncoordinated fumbling, they manage to get onto his king bed without anyone losing their mind or a limb. 

Somehow, Los ends up flat on his back, staring at Breezy's ceiling, soaking in the faint light of the glow-in-the-dark stars he stuck up there at the beginning of their lease. His hand is clenched around Ovi's wrist, his thumb on his pulse point, his head propped up against Breezy's thigh in some convoluted tangle of arms and legs. 

“I was having trouble sleeping,” Ovi finally mutters, shifting in closer to both of them. “Cause of the—cause, we meet Miss Jane tomorrow. And I just, I dunno, I was scrolling Twitter, and then—” He shudders. “It was like eyes were on me, so I looked up, and then—” He cuts himself off, shivering again, harder than before. “It was suddenly so fucking cold. And she was—she just appeared. It was—I scrambled up and then just froze and hardly even knew what to fucking do—” 

Breezy curls in, one of his hands landing on Los’ head, the other on Ovi's when Los glances over. “You texted us,” he says, sounding vaguely dazed. “And then we got to watch Los be the fuckin’ ghost handler of the century.”

“Oh, fuck right off,” Los says, but he’s laughing as he talks, breathless with a wave of sick relief, still tipsy with uncertainty as his adrenaline bleeds out. “Guys, what the fuck? No, really,” he says, louder, like they aren’t equally as freaked out as him. “What the literal fuck?” 

Breezy inhales, his grip tightening on Los’ hair. “What do we do now?” he asks, as Los sinks further back into him, his whole body stuttering through an odd, continuous cycle of fear and exhaustion. He's not even sure if his eyes are open, even as he stares up at the glowing stars, the world shivering around the edges. “Do we tell Cap?” 

“We're playing a game in like twelve hours,” Ovi points out. “If we tell Cap, the whole team's gonna know, and I don't—and won't that just be a huge distraction? I think we should tell him after.” 

Los makes a noise in the back of his throat. “Miss Jane,” he murmurs, blinking slowly. “Movie night.” 

“Jesus Christ,” Breezy mutters. “When it rains, it pours, doesn't it, boys?” Los hums in faint agreement, and Breezy continues, “Okay, so—after that? We can keep a minor secret from Cap and the rest of the team for twenty-four hours while also playing the best game of hockey ever and meeting Cap's super secret boyfriend, who's Shane Hollander.” 

Ovi sighs, shifting again, his whole body settling in right next to Los, a familiar line of heat from their naps that Breezy somehow always convinces them they need to take together. 

“I don't think you could've made it sound more impossible,” he mumbles, his heartbeat steady under Los' fingers. “But I think you're right—we've gotta keep it a secret. At least for now.” 

“Alright, boys,” Los says, his mouth curling into the best smile he can manage, given the swirling dregs of fear and the bone-deep exhaustion clinging to him. He nudges Breezy and squeezes Ovi’s wrist, sighing when they both press back against him. “We’ve got this. After all, how hard can it be?”
