𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘵 Hollanov Interview

by RatedEforEmotion

Summary

Following their coming out, Shane and Ilya spend a whole summer doing interviews, talking about their relationship and about how it will affect hockey.
The interview season ends with them playing Truth or Drink for a magazine. During the game Shane gets a bit too drunk from all the questions he avoids answering, and he ends up revealing a bit too much about their dynamic, which isn't a big deal usually but Ilya is drunk as well and won't let it go.

The headlines read: Shane Hollander is a Bottom, but he's not really bothered by them.

Chapter 1: Interview

Shane Hollander was joining the Ottawa Centraus and the internet was on fire.

Ever since the news broke out every sports channel wanted to interview him and Ilya.

And after being persuaded by Harris and guilt tripped by Yuna, they agreed to do a few.

The interviews were bearable at first, mostly hockey questions; how does it feel to play on the same line? Will Shane take the C from Ilya? Is Shane happy to be playing for his home team?

But they quickly shifted to topics much more interesting and fitting for headlines.

When agreeing to the interviews Shane was sure the debacle of their accidental coming out was over. It had been months after all, the new season was starting and they both thought Shane going to Ottawa was big enough.

That turned out to be mostly truthful. There was definitely confusion as to why Shane would switch from the metros, who he wanted to play for untill retirement, but it faded due to how lethal their line up was this year and how high Ottawa's chances to win the cup jumped.

Sure, there was still a lot of those 'but you dated Rose Landry!' questions but after the first two times they learned to dodge them.

The few interviews they agreed on quickly doubled in number and, honestly, Shane is starting to miss the hockey part of being a famous hockey player.

Today is the last of it because even after Yuna and Harris teamed up there's no way they can keep this going into the season, and the first seasonal practice is in two days.

It's one of those classic magazine interviews, the lights are too bright, there's three cameras on them and Ilya and Shane are on opposite sides of a white plastic table.

On top of the table are two stacks of cards and two lines of vodka shots, one of each in front of both of them.

"We won't interfere, go at your own pace. Just relax for the cameras, yes?" The director speaks, walking to them and giving Ilya an intro card. "Read this at the start, and introduce yourselves. Any questions before we go?"

"No, we're good." Shane smiles politely.

"Wonderful, we're here for any questions or anything bit try to keep it natural." She says and exits the set, sitting on a high chair behind the cameras. "And... We're rolling."

"Hello, internet. I'm Ilya Rozanov-Hollander,"

"And I'm Shane Hollander-Rozanov."

"My husband, I know." Ilya wiggles his eyebrows at the camera, that was definitely not scripted. "And this is Truth or Drink. This wonderful team has prepared us questions we'll ask eachother, then in case we don't wanna answer we drink these shots."

"Okay, let's start." Shane says, picking up a card. Maybe he wasn't listening well when he agreed to this. "First question: What's one habit of mine that annoys you?"

"You know that one." Ilya says "Shane tends to be very hard on himself, and it annoys me he can't see himself in a better life."

"That's not fair, it's supposed to be something bad." Shane rolls his eyes.

"It is true! But fine, then the folding thing." He looks at the camera. "Shane has an exact way in which he folds boxers and boxer and sock drawer is same drawer and when folded they're the same so I've pulled boxers on my feet multiple times and I've taken socks and—"

"Please don't finish that sentence." Shane cuts him off, the tips of his ears going a bit red.

"Is true tho..." Ilya whispers with a smile as he picks up a card. "What's one thing you think I'd never survive without?"

"Oh, that's a good one. It's better McGriddles and McFlurrys but your cranky without sugar so the sweet one," Shane answers. "Or well, junk food in general if that's an acceptable answer. I mean I encourage you to eat healthy with me because the grease in those disgusts me and I care about your wellbeing but love's love, right?"

"Yes, and I love McDonald's." Ilya agrees, earning a kick under the table which makes him laugh. "I love you too, љубави. Your turn."

Shane rolls his eyes but even the cameras pick up on the amusement in them. "Second question: What's something I do that always makes you laugh?"

"Uu, I can't answer that." Ilya stretches a wide grin over his lips. "I know the answer but... Not, how you say, PD."

"PG, Parental Guidance. And it would probably be PG." Ilya nods at his husband's words and does a shot, letting the liquid go down smoothly.

"Alright, what's next" He picks up another flashcard. "What's your favourite memory of us that doesn't involve hockey?"

"I was about to say our first commercial shoot but if it has to be unrelated to hockey then I'd say moving in together or the first summer together at my cottage."

"I like those too." Ilya smiles.

"My turn?" Shane smiles back. "Third question: What's one thing I do that always cheers you up?"

"Shane likes to make me tea and replay old musicals I like while cuddling me." Ilya almost immediately says, recounting all the hard days Shane tries making better.

"Sap." Shane teases.

"Oh," he turns to the camera. "And he likes to count my eyelashes and tells me how many there are."

"True. But you started that with freckles first." Shane chuckles as Ilya picks up the next card.

"If you had to describe me in three words, what would they be?" Ilya asks.

"You know what? I'm gonna drink too." Shane decides and takes the shot, grimacing immediately after. "God, that's disgusting."

"It's Vodka."

"Whatever." Shane picks up another card. "Fourth question: What's the first thing you noticed about me?"

"That's easy; freckles." Ilya says almost instantly as he picks up another card. "What's something you think I'm unnecessarily competitive about?"

"Just about everything." Shane chuckles, reaching for a card but Ilya stops him.

"Nope, one thing. That's what it says here, so choose." He grins wickedly at his husband.

Shane sighs and- knowing they both know exactly what the answer is– takes another shot with a grimace, shaking his head a bit and picking up another card. "Awful. Fifth question: Which version of me is your favorite: game day, practice, or off-season?'

"I like you gameday because you аre full of adrenaline and I like you practice because you sometimes relax and we play around but I like you best off-season, you don't stress." Ilya smiles before adding. "Well only about me."

"True." Shane chuckles as Ilya reads the next question.

"If you had to introduce me to someone in one sentence, what would you say?"

"One sentence isn't enough, I mean I know what I'd say but like grammatically—"

"No grammar, come on. If you don't know you drink."

"I hate this game." Shane announces as he takes another shot, already feeling the alcohol rushing through his veins. This time he doesn't even grimace as much, just shivers a little. "Your question, which is this?; sixth. Sixth question: What's one thing you think you're better at than me?"

"Well, I'm the number one hockey player—"

"Not true."

"But I guess some people don't think so, so I say video games, any and all kind."

"Fair enough, you play a lot more than me." Shane nods, leaning his elbows on the table.

"What's one thing you've copied from me, intentionally or not?" Ilya asks but doesn't give Shane time to answer. "Wait I know this one! He stole my move. I was watching game with his mother and he stole my move last season."

"I didn't steal it." Shane rolls his eyes. "But fine, yes. That. Let the fans dig up what you're talking about. Seventh question: Which of us spends longer getting ready?"

"Have you told them to put that in?" Ilya smirks. "Okay, I get it. I took too long in shower today. But yes, definitely me. You take time too but I have all the curl stuff and then private concert in bathroom and everything."

"You sang that Bob Dylan song today, I still can't get it out of my head." Shane admits, words slurring a bit, like his tongue is getting heavy.

"'He was a friend of mine'?"

"Yes, from the movie last night." Shane agrees.

"We watch Brokeback Mountain." Ilya explains as he lifts a new card. "Who made the first move and how?"

"I can say it's you but..." Shane slurs before sighing in defeat and taking the shot. There's no way in hell he's retelling that publicly.

"Smart." Ilya chuckles

"Indeed." Shane scoffs and picks up a card. "Question eight: What's your favourite picture of me?"

Ilya smirks and takes another shot, swinging his head back dramatically with a sigh. "Not even that strong, you're dramatic, Hollander."

"Hollander-Rozanov." Shane corrects.

"Second that." Ilya smiles and pulls out a card. "If you had to pick my best feature, what would it be?"

"Jesus Christ." Shane says and does another shot.

Ilya laughs but this one goes relatively smoothly tho Shane's eyes have a drunk glint in them. "Ninth question, right? I think so. Have you ever gotten jealous over something completely ridiculous?"

"I don't think it's ridiculous but Shane says it's normal he talks to ex girlfriend."

"Ilya they'll know who you're talking about!"

"So what? They know you're friends. I get jealous. Natural." Ilya shrugs and picks up a card. "Who's better at following instructions?"

"That's me. You like not listening and I like listening."

"Sure." Ilya chuckles, the way those words could be mistaken doesn't fly over his head but he's sure nothing will come of it.

"Next question, tenth. Who's usually in charge?"

"Well, depends. Shane has better hockey tactics but I'm better with the guys, and then at home I'd say Shane for cleaning up and me for other stuff." Ilya answers then quickly adds. "Like yard work, car and stuff."

"Obviously."

"Obviously. Okay, last question for today." Ilya repeats. "Who is more likely to suprise people when it comes to our relationship?"

"Me." Shane laughs drunkenly.

"You?" Ilya smiles.

"Obviously. I mean back then i was like captain and responsible and dominant and then now in Ottawa I'm not captain but I'm still there and still the responsible one, 'i have things under control' guy. With that like dominant undertone and then at home you... Well yeah."

"Well yeah." Ilya says before laughing. "Христос, Shane, they... That sounds..."

"What?" He cluelessly asks.

"Nothing."

"No what?"

"You're just very comfortable admitting that!" Ilya says, still chuckling.

"You're awful!" Shane says, eyes widening.

"I didn't say anything!" Ilya laughs again, doubling over.

"You didn't need to." Shane shakes his head, his cheeks going red.

"You're blushing."

"I'm not, next question."

"We did them all, љубав. But you took more shots so I came out on top... by score."

"Ilya, don't even—" Shane groans into his hands. "I didn't think to like say that!"

"But you did." Ilya laughs in amusement.

"Well, it's not like I lied!" Shane defends.

"Okay, that's enough." Ilya shakes his head. "You're way too drunk." He turns to a camera. "I was Ilya, this was my husband Shane. Thank you for watching us play Truth or Drink. It was an interesting game but now I have to get Shane home, he will be very hangover tomorrow and very annoyed that he said all that. He won't be on top of his game one might say." Ilya winks at the camera and the video recording is done.

They finish watching it and Shane sits in horror on their couch as the team group chat explodes with messages.

"Not a big deal, you have bottom eye anyway, it's magic nobody figured out before." Ilya chuckles and kisses his cheek.

"Asshole. You're not any better, you made it even worse at the end." Shane complains, sliding into his husband's arms.

"I wasn't sober either, xолодильник."

"Refrigerator and I know, it's funny really. Not a big deal, right?"

"Right." Ilya smiles. "Wanna see the group chat?"

"Oh please no. They'll be so annoying." Shane laughs.

"They do it from love!" Ilya laughs.

"You're only saying that because you know you're the worst of us all!" Shane laughs with him.

Chapter 2: Group chat response

"Okay, fine." Shane shakes his head at his husband's puppy eyes. "Check it."
