Russian Circles

Summary

Ilya Rozanov knows who he is.
The best hockey player, the best ottawa Centraus, the best.
And he doesn't hold back on informing everyone about that.
The morning after a win, the whole team is tired and Ilya is being an asshole, so they push back.
One thing they forgot is that their captain can make the morning practice a lot harder if he gets intentionally cockblocked beforehand.

Notes

Hi, I'm adding another story to this universe!
I hope you guy like this one, I wrote it a lot quicker than the last one so the wait shouldn't have been so bad lol.
I tried stretching it to 1k but I couldn't do it without unnecessarily prolonging the story, I find it's fine like this. I know a thousand words minimum is the unwritten rule for chapter lengths but I hope you give this a chance.
The original idea is by @lucyeringeogheganspam on Tiktok.

Russian Circles

"Amazing goal yesterday, Mister Rozanov." Ilya mocked an American accent as he stepped into the changing room, followed by a mildly annoyed Shane. "Thank you thank you, I'm just great like that." He bowed to the changing room before putting down his bag.

"Good morning." Shane said, hanging up his bag next to Ilya's.

A murmur of 'good morning's and 'morning's goes through the room, a few yawns follow. Morning practices after a win are usually like this, slow and drained.

Especially when the night prior is spent out in a club, celebrating untill late night hours with teammates and alcohol.

"Come on, you're all more tired than my late Babushka. Celebrate your captain!" He grins, leaning on his bag as everyone start changing into their gear.

"Lay it off, Roz." Troy says as he ties his skates.

"Oh come on." He fake whines. "Praise me! I scored a hat trick last night. Hollander only did one goal. I'm amazing."

"It's really too early for this, Ilya." Shane reasons, sitting down on the bench.

"But is true!" He says, all the room's adrenaline contained in his blood. "You guys would suck without me."

Wyatt scoffs before saying. "I do believe I made it to the NHL without your help."

"Yes, and how many games did you win?" Ilya teases, grinning from ear to ear as he looks through his bag for something. "Not very many. Any of you really, maybe Hollander but he's getting old."

"You're the same age." Wyatt says and Ilya just shrugs.

"Yes and I'm still the best." He grins, pulling out a clipboard.

"Oh my god, you're so full of yourself," Troy grumbles, rubbing his eyes.

"Not egocentric if it is true," Ilya shrugs

Wyatt snorts from across the room. "You scored three goals and suddenly you're Ovechkin."

"I am better looking than Ovechkin," Ilya shoots back immediately

"Low bar," Boodram mutters, digging through his bag for tape

A few of the guys laugh quietly. Someone yawns again.

Ilya looks around at them with exaggerated disappointment

"Unbelievable. I bring glory to this team and this is the appreciation I get." He says.

"Lay it off, Rozy." Boodram says with a sigh.

"Fine, fine. I go write the schedule for next month while you babushkas get ready." Ilya says as he leaves the changing room.

"God he's such an ass sometimes." Wyatt says as soon as their captain is out.

"Dude..." Luca says next to him, nudging his head in Shane's direction.

"No, no. I agree." Shane says almost immediately. "He's even worse at home. I love him but he's very annoying. An idiot I prefer to say."

Troy sighs and says. "I would love to take him down a few notches."

"Wait," Bood says, head turning towards Shane. "Shane?"

"No!" Shane says, leaning against his locker.

"Come on, you have to know of a way we can piss him off!" Troy says

"Oh, I have multiple. That's not the problem." Shane shakes his head.

"Then do it," Wyatt joins in. "Please, Shane. Piss him off."

"If I do something he'll go so much harder on us all today." Shane reasons.

"I can deal with that." Troy says.

"Me too" Bood agrees.

"Me three." Wyatt nods.

"Fine." He pushes off his locker. "Give me like half a minute then interrupt"

"Interrupt!?" Shane hears Luca question behind him as he leaves the changing room and goes to the small closet where Ilya should be making the schedule.

"Hi." Shane smiles.

"Hi." Ilya back smiles at him in that annoyingly hyperactive way.

Shane hums and steps closer, turning Ilya and backing him against a wall.

"Oh, it's that kind of hi." Rozanov chuckles, putting his hand on Shanes waist.

Shane smiles and takes Ilya's hand off his waist, kissing his fingertips. "Such a bad boy, so risky before practice." Ilya cooes, his breath hitching as Shanes falls to his knees. "Fuck, baby."

Shane smiles at him and on cue, Wyatt knocks on the door.

"Hollander you in there?" He asks through the door. "We need you for something, come on."

"Fucking Hayes." Ilya groans and bangs his head back on the wall as Shane gets up with a smile. "

"Coming!" Shane yells and leaves the closet

They all get back to the changing room, Wyatt, Shane and a suddenly very unenthusiastic Ilya.

Geer is thrown on in silence, Ilya keeps glancing at Shane, Shane doesn't look back.

"What's up, cap?" Bood asks, unable to hide a grin as they step onto ice.

"Mind your own business, Boodram." He says as his skates hit the ice. He hears chuckles behind him at it clicks.

"Have you... You absolute dickheads!" He turns, staring at his teammates. "Shane!" He reasons his husband who just laughs with the rest of the men.

"Have we what, Rozy?" Wyatt asks with a grin.

Ilya curses in russian under his breath, picking up the three pucks that were set on ice and throwing them back into the bag. "Fuck that. Let's actually do a Bag skate today." He says, forcing a big mean smile. "Does 10 kilometres sound good for you funny guys?"

"Ilya," Shane skates a meter forward. "Come on, it's just a joke."

"Yeah, joke. Funny." Ilya scoffs. "You're stalling, Hollander, that's 11k now. Russian Circles. Go."

Shane skates away, muttering. "Then I'll be too tired when we get home."

"That's 12, Hollander." Ilya yells after him, skating to the bench where Harris is sitting.

"You're mean." Harris tells him as Ilya leans against the side, watching his teammates skate around.

"He likes it." Ilya winks at Shane who flips him off as much as his gloves allow. "13! Lucky number. Good job, Hollander. They must love your creativity now!"

"Dude!" Troy groan, glaring at Shane.

"I'm not doing anything!" Shane reasons with him, his legs staring to burn.

"You married him." Bood reminds him. "I think that's enough."

"That's not a crime, come on!" Shane says.

"Debatable." Wyatt scoffs.

"No talking. You talk you skate slower!"

Afterword

End Notes

Btw i had no clue who Wayne Gretzky was before writing this, so I googled best hockey player ever and he came up. The 'low bar' comment after referencing him was definitely not true, he is handsome, but it fit well so just go with it.

Same goes for every other reference to hockey (Russian circles, bag skate, etc) it's all made with (admirably brief) research on Google and Reddit.
