So! I’m meant to be writing my Fandom Trumps Hate fills (which ngl I am very excited about) but! my friend reminded me that today is Trans Day of Visibility. And since I was thinking to myself yesterday, “Man, I hope I can work in the fact that the Beat Reporter in Weak Backhand is trans!”, it seemed like too good an opportunity to pass up.

So, behold: A comparatively fluffy and probably unrealistically supportive setup for LGBTQ (Youth) Hockey Players!

There are still traces of (systemic) trans-/homophobia and referenced homophobia, but the stuff shown is very much from supportive characters.

In between drills, I happened to be next to @hayden35pike at the boards, who admitted that it was his idea to show up: "I've always thought of myself as a very progressive person -- my sister will be marrying her wife this summer, so the #LGBTQ community has always been close to my heart."

I saw so many phone numbers and facebook contacts and after-school clubs be exchanged between kids who otherwise might never have met. I grew up as an outsider -- I had friends at school, but no one who was *Like Me*, and the sport I loved made me feel like it didn't love me back
