Jackie or Shane?
Summary
“Okay.” J.J. finished his beer, depositing the bottle on the coffee table and looked at Ilya. “Do you wanna play a game?”
Another eyebrow raise from Ilya.
“I call it Jackie or Shane, a game where I tell you an actual real quote that I heard Hayden say and you have to guess if he said it to his wife or his best friend.”
Ilya blinked.
J.J. held eye contact.
“Let’s do this.”

Notes
listen, i saw this post on tumblr and got the urge to write it. does it fit with the canon timeline? who knows. we're just gonna roll with it okay?
Jackie or Shane?
Ilya didn’t even know how he ended up here. Here being Hayden fucking Pike’s couch, a glass of (truly god-awful) vodka in hand and wondering when it was an acceptable time to leave.
They’d had practice earlier and if he’s honest, Ilya felt a little tired. He just wanted to go home, get Shane off in the shower and then curl up in bed with his boyfriend for the next twelve hours. Instead, he’d joined Shane at this little get together the Pikes were hosting, taking advantage of the fact that Hayden’s parents were watching their kids.
Ilya took another mindless sip from his vodka, and right, Pike had terrible taste in vodka. Unsurprisingly. The cushion next to him dipped as another person dropped next to him on the sofa. He rolled his head along the headrest and raised an eyebrow at the newcomer.
“Rozanov,” J.J. said, taking a sip from his beer.
“Boiziau.”
Silence spread between them, but it wasn’t entirely uncomfortable. After some initial scepticism, J.J. had eventually warmed up to Ilya. They’d probably never be the best of friends but they found some common ground in caring about Shane.
“Let’s do this.” Ilya sat up, intrigued. If nothing else, it’ll give him more material to tease Pike later.
“Alright,” J.J. cleared his throat. “Starting with an easy one: You look so good holding a baby.”
“See, is easy because I want to say Jackie, but I bet is Shane,” Ilya grinned.
“Yes!” J.J. said.
“He does look good holding baby. Even if it is Pike child.” Ilya’s eye unfocused for a moment as his thoughts drifted to a far future, both of them retired, with toys littering the living room rug and two, maybe three, smaller pairs of skates joining Shane’s and his.
J.J. clapped his hands, bringing Ilya back to the present. “Next one: Here, you forgot your jacket this morning.”
“Shane never forgets things, I say Jackie.”
“Meeep!” J.J. imitated a buzzer sound. “That one was after a morning practice where Shane was suspiciously eager to leave,” he smirked. “Almost like he had somewhere to be…”
Ilya laughed. There had been more than one occasion where Shane had gone to morning practice only to rush back home to steal another couple hours before Ilya had to drive back to Ottawa. The fact that on one of those occasions Shane, his particular, organised Shane, had been in such a hurry he actually left behind his jacket had a delighted spark glim in Ilya’s eyes.
“Come on, give me next one!”
“I bought your favourite moisturiser.”
“Oh that is too easy, Boiziau,” Ilya complained, letting himself dramatically fall back into the pillows. “Jackie!”
“Yeah, that wasn’t my best one,” J.J. admitted, contemplating. “Okay. You know, I feel like recently Amber has been saying your name more than mine.” He looked gleefully at Ilya.
“Hm.” Ilya mulled it over, taking another sip of vodka and immediately regretting it. “Urgh, I need to recommend Jackie better vodka for when I come. Clearly Pike has no idea what he is doing.”
J.J. laughed and Ilya felt a small sense of satisfaction. Then he went back to thinking about the quote. This one was definitely harder, so he just guessed.
“Jackie.”
“Meeep!” The buzzer imitation was back and Ilya groaned.
“It was the week where Jackie went to help her sister move and the kids got sick,” J.J. explained.
Ilya nodded. He remembered that week; Arthur brought home some daycare bug that he then gave to Ruby and Jade. Shane had been over almost every day to help Hayden out.
“Okay, give me another,” Ilya demanded. He might have started to indulge Boiziau but now he was hooked, truly started to have fun.
“Alright.” He grinned. “How about this, yes, I promise I’ll do better picking up my dirty socks.”
“Oh, oh!” Ilya sat up pointing excitedly at J.J. “I know that! Shane! Because he complained to me! ”
“But that’s only because I got Hayd to clean up after himself at home three months into our marriage,” chimed another voice in.
“Jackie! My favourite Pike!” Ilya smiled and scooted over, patting the cushion between J.J. and him. “Join us. We play very funny game called Jackie or Shane,” he explained, all serious now.
She laughed and sat down, careful not to spill any of her red wine.
“You, be quiet,” J.J. told her sternly. “Don’t forget our dinner date on Saturday.”
“Jackie,” Ilya said confidently only to immediately backtrack. “Nonono, wait! Shane.”
“Close one, but you should’ve stuck with your first choice,” J.J. smirked. “I’ve got two more.”
“Hit me,” Ilya nodded, rolling his shoulders like he was preparing for a face-off, determined not to get it wrong again.
“I love you and I support you, but this is the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard.”
Ilya exhaled, trying to think of situations where Pike might’ve said this. He took another guess. “Shane.”
“Ding ding ding!”
“What was it about?” Ilya wanted to know.
“Shane told Hayden that zucchini noodles taste basically the same as normal pasta,” J.J. said and as much as it pained Ilya to agree with Pike, he was right. They absolutely were not the same. He knew from experience.
“Last one, are you ready? This one is hard.”
“Ready.”
J.J. cleared his throat. “That’s not true, I’ve seen you naked. Jackie or Shane?”
“блядь, that is hard.”
“You backing down from a challenge?” J.J. cocked an eyebrow.
“No,” Ilya sounded offended. “I can do it.”
He glanced to his side, but Jackie just took a delicate sip of her wine and said nothing, expression neutral.
This one was another fifty-fifty. Sure, it was in the nature of their profession to see other players naked all the time but would Pike comment on Shane’s body like that?
“Jackie,” he decided.
“You sure?”
“Nah uh,” Ilya tsked, “you trying to mess with me! I say Jackie.”
“That is…” J.J. made a small drum roll on his thighs. Ilya and Jackie both looked at him. “Correct!”
“Yes!” Ilya gave a fist pump and Jackie chuckled beside him.
“Though I don’t know what Jackie said before that.” J.J. looked expectantly at Jackie, who just shrugged and emptied her wine.
“Guess you’ll never know,” she smirked and Ilya couldn’t help but grin. Maybe he’d ask her again in a quiet moment when it was just the two of them because he couldn’t lie and say he wasn’t curious. But then he spotted a figure approaching the sofa and every thought about Pike left his mind.
“моя любовь!” Ilya reached out a hand towards Shane who easily let himself be pulled down to sit sideways in Ilya’s lap.
“What’s got you so happy?” Shane asked, smile tugging on the corner of his lips.
“Boiziau made me play game with him,” Ilya explained, arms sneaking around Shane’s waist and pressing a kiss to his shoulder.
“Made you?” J.J. huffed, but he couldn’t hide his amusement. “You agreed!”
“Do I wanna know?” Shane leaned back and looked between Jackie, J.J. and Ilya.
“No,” Jackie answered for the group. She stood. “I’m gonna take advantage of a child free night and get another drink. Anyone else want anything?”
J.J. shook his head and Ilya was about to decline as well, when Shane said, “Actually, I think we’re gonna head out?” His voice went up at the end in question as he searched for Ilya’s eyes.
“да. It has been great party, thank you for inviting us,” Ilya said, tiredness suddenly slamming back into him full force. At some point Shane’s fingers had found the curls at his nape to play with and Ilya had to force himself not to melt into the touch. Otherwise, Ilya feared he would never be able to get up from this couch.
“Of course. We’ll see you next week for dinner, yeah?”
“Yes,” Shane confirmed and stood up as well to give Jackie a brief hug.
J.J. gave a laze wave where he was sprawled back into the cushions. “See you, Capitaine.”
“Have a good night,” Shane replied, then looked at Ilya.
“Home?”
Ilya nodded, basking in the warm smile Shane sent him. He pushed himself off the couch to fold Jackie into a hug of his own.
“Take care,” she whispered into his ear and he hummed in reply.
When they broke apart, Shane was waiting next to the couch, still wearing that same soft smile and holding out a hand for Ilya to take.
They weaved through the people mingling in the living room, saying a quick goodbye to Hayen on the way to the door and then they’re in the car with Shane behind the wheel and Ilya curled up in the passenger seat.
“Are you gonna tell me what game you played?” Shane asked mildly as they rolled to a stop at a red light.
Ilya shook his head slightly, smiling sleepily. “Seems like I know Pike better than I thought.”
“Oh yeah?”
“I will deny if you ever tell him.”
“Okay,” Shane laughed quietly. The light changed and they started moving again, lights flying by outside the window. Ilya’s hand found Shane’s on top of the gear shift like so many times before since that one drive back to the cottage from Shane’s parents.
In a few minutes they’d be home and maybe Ilya could convince Shane to skip the shower and go to bed directly, postpone the shower blowjob until the morning.
For now, the radio was playing on low volume, the A/C blasted warm air and Shane’s fingers were warm and strong between his as Montreal drifted by.
